Photography Tips and Tricks for Capturing Celebrations
These event photography tips can be used to help you take better pictures at anniversities, weddings, birthday parties or any event. Following some simple digital photography tips will help you start taking better pictures at the events you want to capture most.
When taking pictures at events it's good to get a good combination of posed and candid shots. You can capture the fun and celebration of the moment in your candid shots. You can also catch the relationships between the people and even some tender moments that make lovely photographs. You can also get more tradional posed shots to help round out your photographic narrative of the event.
Candid Digital Photography Tips
The first of the event photography tips will give you some tips on how to take good candid pictures.
The best way to get natural looking candid photos at events is to take photographs of people while not being noticed. When people know you're photographing them they often become uncomfortable and their actions become stiff and unnatural.
Setting your camera to photograph without a flash will make you less conspicuous. Turning off your flash will also reduce your camera's recovery time before you can take another photo. Being able to take many pictures one after the other with little recovery time will ensure that you don't miss any moments you want to capture.
When I'm taking candid shots in a situation where people are moving around a lot, I like to set my camera at a high ISO setting. The faster shutter speed provided by a high ISO will let you capture people who are moving around without blurring the image.
Using a zoom lens will also help you take better candid pictures. The farther away you can be from people when taking their pictures, the less likely they are to notice you. You can think of it as a kind of sarafi adventure. You're trying to photograph people in their natural environment while remaining unnoticed.
As usual pay attention to your foreground and background. Remember rules of composition, but don't get so caught up in those rules that you hestitate too much before taking a picture. These pictures are spontaneous. You have anticipate where the action might happen and be ready to take the picture quickly.
Move around the area. Look for different people to photograph and different angles to photograph from.
Traditional Group Portrait Tips
Other event photography tips involve getting to know how to take posed pictures at an event. While candid pictures are fun, you may still want some more tradition posed pictures from your event.
First find a area where you'd like to take the picture. When you chose the background and foreground for the picture remember that you want it to help portray something about event. You may want to take a large group picture or just pictures of a few of the people at the event at a time.
Talk to the people you're photographing to make them feel comfortable. Give some direction as to how you want them to stand.
