This is my third digital camera but first major upgrade from a Sony Cybershot 7.1 megapixel compact point and shoot. This model packs a 10x optical zoom, 2.8 aperture at the short end of its zoom range, but more importantly, allows for manual exposure control.

The biggest drawback with digital cameras as opposed to SLR bodies is the lag time when pressing the shutter button.

Auto-focus technology requires a sensor to detect an area you have framed in the viewfinder at a given focal range to lock on its
target to ensure a focused image. This model rated among the best in its class for shortest lag time. It certainly delivers as long as you don't require a flash to recycle.

This camera is compact and light enough to go with me everywhere without being obtrusive.

The worst aspect of this model is the glare from the LCD screen! In macro photography and/or bright backlight, it is difficult to see the focus and framing of your subject.

Overall, this is a camera that provides excellent picture quality on the go. Its short shutter lag is particularly desirable when photographing kids, pets or candid portraits of people in general.

In short, it is the most fun I've ever had with a camera that has proven very reliable in focus and metering across a wide range of conditions. I highly recommend it.
